Most of us can think back and remember a time or two where we gave into the mentality that "out of sight is out of mind." Whether it was a matter of closing the drapes so we wouldn't notice the lawn needs mowing, or shutting the laundry room door so as not to face the mountain that is growing in there. Haven't we all, as kids, just shoved everything into our closets when mom asked us to clean our rooms?
While these are all temporary fixes, they don't solve the problem and, in fact, the problem just gets worse. When we toss litter along the roadside or directly into our waterways, we're not really getting rid of the trash. More likely, we're creating trash. (There's a bumper sticker that says, "Only trash litters." Think about it.) When our fishing line or casting net, or worse yet, our boat anchor gets unretrievably tangled beneath the water, we cut the line and figure, awe, heck - a few more dollars down the drain. And we assume that, somehow, one more line, one more anchor, a hook, a sinker laying to waste at the bottom of the lake, bay, gulf, ocean... won't make a difference in the whole scheme of things. Who's gonna' see it anyway? Surely it won't bother anyone if they can't even see that it's down there... right?
Wrong! Out of sight doesn't make it right! Our goal is to educate everyone who explores our website as to the hidden and not-so-hidden dangers that lie out of sight beneath the water. Next, we hope to inspire you to act against the harm that is being done to each and every one of us as well as to all of the creatures that make their homes in and around the water.
